The Concept of the Mini-Vacation
Everyone loves a blowout vacation - you drop a couple grand on a great vacation that’s a week or two (or three) to an exotic locale. You drink dozens of drinks with umbrellas in them and you sit on the beach… or you drink lots of electrolytes and climb mountains and hills. Whatever fancies you, a huge blowout vacation always de-stresses and lets you do what you’d love to do for the rest of your life. But those only come every few years (or more often if you’re lucky/rich), so what about the times in between? That’s when the mini-vacation comes in.
So what does a mini-vacation look like? It can look like anything! We’re talking a long weekend (3 or 4 days) where you just get away. It would be something as simple as a drive out to a rented cabin in the woods for a weekend or something like flying down to Disney World and spending three days in the parks. Ultimately, a mini-vacation should be cheap, fun, and simple.
Where you live and what season it is dictates what your options are for your mini-vacation. East coasters are obviously limited to east coast options, though with discount airlines and a large enough budget, the door is wide open these days. On the east coast, taking a jaunt down to Orlando to Disney World is one fun mini-vacation if you were to go only for a couple days. New York City or Miami are always popular options for folks with a hankering for the big city life (though those two big cities are very different). If it’s the winter, consider going to a ski resort in New England or in PA (I recently went on a ski trip to Seven Springs) if you like skiing.
On the west coast, take a weekend trip to San Diego (check out Shamu at Sea World), Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, or, Las Vegas. A little tour of Hollywood if you’ve never been always seems exciting plus the west coast as Disney, Knott’s, and Universal if you want to check out a theme park. Las Vegas is always a popular destination and with some of the cheap room rates, it would qualify as a mini-vacation as long as you don’t lose too much at the craps table!
Consider the mini-vacation as a great way to get away but not blow the bank. Not every vacation is going to be a blowout one so taking the occasional mini does really improve your quality of life.
